Our department is assigned to a tertiary emergency center in Chiba city, staffed with emergency and critical care physicians/surgeons, nurses and other specialists and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for critically ill or injured patients. We treat approximately 1,700 patients (>300 critical patients in the Emergency Room) annually for a variety of medical conditions and trauma. The entire staff is committed to providing special care for critically ill patients with the highest quality. We are also actively involved in research in the critical care field leading to the improvement of survival rates in the critically ill. We operate a closed-type general ICU (intensive care unit) which has 22 beds, including 4 beds in the coronary care unit, and 10 beds in a ward separated from the emergency care area (ER). A heliport is located on the top of the east tower, and our staff (shown below) will break out the emergency helicopter service with first aid medical supplies and go immediately to the scene in corporation with the Chiba City Fire Department.
